Just the other day as I rode around town on my motorcycle, I realized that I had no idea what it might cost to rent a Jet Ski or Boat.
As fate would have it, I remembered that just such a shop had moved into the neighborhood a few years ago. I had never visited this place and thought back to the days when they first took over the old brake shop that used to be in that spot.
I said that it was pretty risky putting a place like this, right here in this part of town. I didn't believe that African Americans were into these activities enough to support a real business enterprise (at least not this far away from the actual water).
Well I was way wrong. Everyday now when I drive by I take notice. There's always at least a small number of clients climbing over, around and through the rather decent selection of vehicles. So I thought...
If I didn't know anything about this industry, I bet many of my readers don't either.
Okay enough talk, here's the facts!

On The Other Side Of The Tracks
I elected to do some further research on this subject because I couldn't figure out in my heart whether the above prices were reasonable or not. It just wasn't a subject I was familiar with.
Well that research paid off. When you get out of the inner city and deal with Rental locations that exist right on the water, you'll find prices that will make you say-
You got to be kidding!!!
That's right. Most of these places actually charge by the HOUR, not by the day but by the HOUR. For example it was not uncommon to find prices like $85.00 an HOUR to rent a Jet Ski.
After choking on a few of those quotes, I settled down and found myself coming to a significant realization.
Although the prices seemed much better in the inner city, to use their rentals you needed to have a trailer to get the vehicle to the water. At the very least your car or SUV needed to have a trailer hitch already installed.
Therefore unless you are a real avid user of these summer toys, maybe just a couple hours of rental is all you really need.
